There are still a number of problems for the electric car to overcome before it can truly become a viable alternative to the gas-guzzling cars we all drive today. The price of the cars needs to drop significantly, the price of replacing or renting the batteries also needs to drop, the range of the cars needs to improve, and we need to be able to charge them much more easily, meaning anywhere we choose to stop.
BMW may have solved that last problem by upgrading an object that already sits at regular intervals on a large percentage of the roads we drive along. What BMW has done is to combine an electric car charging solution with a street light — a system it is calling Light and Charge.
